Introducing Myself
My name is Stephen Alvarez, and I am a sound designer, audio engineer, and musician native to Los Angeles.
I currently work as:
-
Dialogue Editor with Allied Post Audio
-
Sound Engineer at The Groundlings comedy theater
-
Technician for Bridges Auditorium at Pomona College
-
Freelance Sound Designer in theater, film, and video games
Additionally, I perform regularly as a jazz Pianist in the greater Los Angeles area.
When I was ten, I learned to play a $20 guitar — and this marked the beginning of a lifelong curiosity for music. Throughout my life music, films, and games inspired me to explore many avenues of sound. From leading a jazz quartet to recording an orchestra to operating a boom mic on a film set, I eventually discovered a fascination for audio post-production; since then, I have been pursuing a career in related endeavors. With extensive study and collaboration, I've honed my skills in music production, live event audio, and post-production sound. These experiences have helped me develop a well-rounded understanding of how to shape sound organically.
To me sound carries power. It transcends boundaries regardless of where you're from or what language you speak. It has most likely impacted your life even if it goes unnoticed. It's a tool, a message, a feeling, an apparatus that evokes emotions. Which in the end, is our goal as creatives. With that I strive to help people by using sound to support in telling their stories.
